A couple of weeks ago we were out with
another couple celebrating a birthday. Of course we met this couple through
the Porsche Club. I think Tobey and I have met most of our closest friends
through the club. Amazing how the love a little car like a Porsche can
bring people together. Anyway, we had a lighthearted conversation speculating
on what we were going to do when we are too old to drive. We agreed that
we would not be golfing. Our conversation wandered to what if there was
a retirement home for retired PCA'ers. I thought this would be a great
idea for an article.
So lets see, in about 50 years, what would
the old folks home for Ner'puckers be like. Each of us would be wheeling
around in our own Porsche designed wheel chair. Dave and Susanna Weber
will be writing a newsletter for the home in which they would have ads
from Geritol and Polydent to run in place of ads for performance parts.
It will also contain a calendar of events that the home has developed especially
for the retired Porsche owner.
Our once a year Ramble will still be held
but this one will be held weekly and the destination will be the Friendly's
down the street. Bill Seymour will be chairperson for the Wheel Chair Autocross.
Funny thing is that Bill doesn't look 50 years older. What does he and
Dick Clark know that we don't? Hmm? In Steve Ross's room you can find used
performance parts for your wheelchair. Here you can find those most sought
after parts such as Turbo look cane mirrors. Anyone need a LSD for your
chair?
Bruce Corwin's chair would be an ex-factory
racer's chair. Of course he would stick those little cameras of his all
over it. Later, we would all watch his runs in fast forward to remind us
of the "good old days". Dennis Cataldo, who could never leave his rides
alone, has tweaked the maximum performance for his chair with 10-inch wheels
in the rear and added a supercharger. Is that allowed for stock class Dennis?
Greg Hill will be talking about how his wheelchair is the best ride he
has ever driven... "
On a scale from low to high, canes are
down low. My walker was somewhere in the middle. But this chair is unbelievable.
I'll need more seat time to sort it all out." I on the other hand will
be the one with the "poor man's" Porsche wheel chair. Some bargain that
I found and rebuilt. I would have Cindy Markley work her magic to shine
it up and make it look beautiful. Nothing but the best Pinnacle wax for
my baby.
I think there could be a lot of interest
in this. So, watch for the infomercial before investing. |
