By the time you read this another year has taken the checker flag. I have heard from several people that they were glad the year was over and ready for a new one. I personally enjoyed 2004. As a board member helping Susana Weber with the Vice President position I continued to put together meetings for you all to attend with the NER Porsche Club. Some were good and some not so good and one was a total failure.

Paul Russell always attracts a good crowd; HMS too has strong showings. The Karting Enduro has been a sellout for the 2 years we have held it. It was no surprise that KTR’s Dyno day was a huge hit. The NASCAR Movie had a good turnout with a few folks that hadn’t been to other events. The Golf? Well I tried for 2 years to get that to work. For years I have had people ask me for a golf tournament, when I do none of them show. Then there was the total washout Slotcar day. I even forgot this one but fortunately it only had 1 person sign up and he was a no show. Needless to say the slotcar shop guy was a little bummed thinking he was going to have a big day with Porsche Club. Oh well! Then as the year ended we had one of the best Annual Dinner turnouts in years with 129 participants.

My Club Racing year was wonderful. I finished with a few podiums at some very tough tracks all preparing me for even better results in 2005. Andy Jenks on the other hand was probably glad to see the big 2004 get the checker. He was plagued with typical problems that arise from buying a car that has been raced for the 10 years prior. Wear and tear seems to increase exponentially when racing. But with a little help and time I am confident that he will overcome the 2004 set backs.

During this off season I am tweeking the beast. This winter will see the addition of very expensive four into one 321 stainless steel headers promised to give me an additional 20 hp and 20 lb ft. That should upset the universe a bit. Along with freshly rebuilt calipers and tranny and a few little tweeks including Jon Milledge joining me at the dyno the outcome should be extraordinary. Now if I can figure out the proper camber settings for the new Hoosiers I’ll be in good shape.

On the personal level the woman that I was dating decided in March that I wasn’t thrilled enough with her and decided to split. Little did she know that I was thrilled with her but didn’t show it very well. Oh well, that just left me with more money for racing. See everything works out for the better. I also lost my second Boxer. Bosco, who replaced my first Boxer (Bentley) of almost 13 years, passed away after 3 1/2 years of heart trouble when I returned from the Mosport Race, which made room for Jerry to receive a permanent home. One door closes and another opens.

I guess if I didn’t have a personal life my life would be perfect.

From a business point of view I had one of the best years I have had in a long time. I acquired a new client from Australia. The women flew here and spent 8 days with me designing several packages in a newly designed line of child safety products that I did as well as developed 2 new lines. I also spent a couple days in New York City with her and her husband watching their daughter play with their school band in Carnegie Hall. It would have been a blast if I didn’t hate that city so much. Now the hard part comes, pay taxes or modify the racecar? I really would rather spend it on the racecar.

Now for 2005. As most of you probably know the NER Board finally succeeded in getting me to run for President. I can’t say I didn’t warn ’em. Because I spend 99% of my time alone I have acquired a certain knack for fixing problems when they arise. That has to cease if I am to be a good president. Now I have to email or phone the entire board to do things. Before when I was Vice President it was easier. I just had to get things done which is what I do best. I can guarantee there will be some wild times on the board these next 2 years. I just may be the first NER PCA President to be impeached or perhaps even assassinated. I tend to really rub people the wrong way some times. That is why I like being alone.

But there are a few things that I would like to mention about the upcoming season. First, don’t hold your breath for another golf tournament. You all had your shot and the board decided not to pursue it any further. Karting has become a sore spot with PCA National. The club can no longer promote a club sponsored karting event due to insurance problems. This doesn’t mean that we won’t be karting. It just means it won’t be planned and executed by the board. In fact I am personally working on a 4-5 race series with the help of Mike’s Autobody and another sponsor (we need one more) at the F1 outdoor track. The format will be the same as the last 2 years, a 30 minute practice and a 1-1/2 hour enduro. So watch for the promo in upcoming Nor’Easters.

Susana also has some new, good ideas for monthly meetings. Look for possible trips to a brewery, Turner Motorsports, and maybe even a River Boat trip. It should be a great year for new events.

As for race predictions? Well I am still researching my supposed over boosting problem. In an attempt to better understand the whole system I have uncovered several Porsche factory manuals and mechanics that all state the numbers I produced in my test are all normal. So I am trying to find out where the Club Race guys get their specs. Hopefully I won’t have to find a way to reduce boost. I am shooting for a few second place finishes this year. Last year I had a few thirds and I learned a great deal. First may be out of the question but I am open for anything.

So for my articles, this year I am going to try to give you reports on how and what the club is doing. If you had any idea how hard it is to write an article every month you wouldn’t mind putting up with all the crap I have to say. But I will try to keep it relevant as long as possible.

If any of you have any questions or comments please feel free to email them to me. I am sure many of you have something interesting to write about.

So let’s all welcome the year of the Rooster.
