As you all know KART is a bad 4-letter word within the Porsche Club. Who knows why! Do you think the present Porsche factory drivers ever karted? With their buddies in the Porsche Club? Apparently it is an insurance related issue. I can’t figure out why because the track makes everyone sign a waiver and they have their own insurance. Anyway Racing America Indoor Karting in Foxboro hosted an Invitational event back on April 22nd. The individual turnout was not spectacular but the people that did show up had a blast. The original format was to have two-man teams and run a 110 lap race. Because the turn out was low we decided to let everyone have their own kart and run a 75 lap race with a 5 minute fuel stop. Competition was really tough. There were some great drivers in attendance. We had a total turnout of twelve drivers including a couple of father & son pairs. Barry Brensinger was a big threat along with his son Cam who was equally fast. Barry found it tough to beat the top few guys not because of driver skill but the difference in body weight. Karting definitely benefits the lighter drivers. Cam did real well finishing right behind me in fifth. George Rouhart and his son Philip were the source of some serious battling. Peter Bergwall was a new hot shoe out of nowhere with a 6th place finish. His friend Judy Honohan clearly was new at this and suffered a couple blisters in her attempt to get a handle on it. I suspect next time she will have gloves and a bit more attitude. I finally dragged my buddy Stephen Berry back to an event. As good of a driver as he is, he hasn’t quite got the kart thing down. The three big shots were of course the 165 lb Frank Simmons, a very fine driver, finished 1st and was a lap ahead of all but the 2nd place finisher John Tzybilski (a BMW driver). I probably spelled his name wrong but I couldn’t find my entry list. Mark Gallagher and I had some great battles for the majority of the event with Mark squeaking by in the last couple of laps. I don’t think his karting name of POKEY is very appropriate as he finished 3rd. So for those of you that didn’t sign up or the few that cancelled at the last minute, you missed a great time. We are having another event on June 25th as a multi-club event. Hopefully we will have some Ferrari drivers, SRF drivers, Subaru drivers, BMW drivers and a few from the kart place too. If you read this before that time give me a call at 508/520-7287 to see if there is any space left on any of the teams. |
