The Northeast Region

NOR'EASTER Online - August 2001

  • It hasn’t been easy but we’ve finally confirmed with renowned driver David Murry that he’ll be visiting and speaking to us on September 22, 2001. Dennis Cataldo has been exchanging emails with David ever since he was forced to cancel our February date due to a medical emergency. The location is yet to be determined so watch the web site and September NOR’EASTER for more specifics and in the mean time reserve September 22 on your calendar.

  •
It’s housekeeping and desk clearing time. Let me first remind everyone of NER’s privacy policy. Your personal information down to and including home address, phone number and email address is never given (or sold) to anyone outside the club, and within the NER family only on a strict “need to know” basis for club activities and purposes. So, it behooves all of you to keep your information in our database current.

When you move, remember to notify both PCA and NER. The PCA address is always on the third page from the last of Panorama and the NER Membership Chairman’s (the keeper of the database) snail and email addresses are always listed with the “NER Board of Directors” in the NOR’EASTER. When we learn of address changes with the return of the magazine as “undeliverable” you’ve missed an issue. Equally important for current addresses may be the need for an emergency club wide mailing to notify all of a meeting cancellation..

Phone numbers and email addresses are rarely used but when needed are very important. A prime example occurred only yesterday. I received an email from another region announcing that the Redman Rennsport Reunion at Lime Rock during the end of July was looking for 356 convertible owners to drive VIPs around the track during breaks in the action. Searching the database for 356 owners, I forwarded that email to those addresses I had and of course many came back as undeliverable. So don’t be bashful, send me your numbers and addresses if I don’t already have them and then keep me current when you change jobs or ISPs and if your email address changes.

Problems and situations revolving around your PCA membership should be directed to PCA headquarters in VA. When you’ve renewed and haven’t gotten your new member cards, when your wallet’s been stolen with your PCA card or when you want to change your associate or family member are all times to contact Ruth Harte and her staff. And by the way, when you relocate outside our region and wish to remain an NER member with all its perks make very clear to Ruth that you want to remain an NER member. Otherwise you’ll be moved to the region that serves your new location.

Other than editorial content and letters to the editor, NOR’EASTER matters should be addressed to the Membership Chairman/keeper of the data base/receiver of renewal checks. Without fail, every year subscription checks are mailed to the wrong person. Or the check is never written and mailed and then around March and April I’m inundated with “where’s my NOR’EASTER?” So in advance, let me suggest that you make an entry in your calendar to be on the lookout for the annual November mailing with the ballot and NOR’EASTER renewal form and then promptly return it with your check. And if for some reason the post office does not deliver that particular piece of mail, we publish full page reminders that it’s renewal time with a form and the proper address to which it should be sent.

At the same time, I do make mistakes when I’m getting hundreds of checks per week - and the next person in the position will also. So if you don’t receive the March issue (we send the January and February issues gratis) let me know right away, don’t wait for June or July, and we’ll get the situation straightened out.

Lastly on the topic of the Nor’easter, our long time and award winning editor Dave Weber always welcomes Porsche related articles. Dust off that Smith Corona or Word ’95 and send in a story or article.

    Points to Ponder

    • If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself, is it considered a hostage situation?
    • Isn’t it a bit unnerving that doctors call what they do practice?
    • What do you do when you see an endangered animal eating an endangered plant?
    • If a parsley farmer is sued, can they garnish his wages?
    • Why do the put Braille on the drive-through ATMs?
    • How is it possible to have a civil war?
    • Why do they lock gas station bathrooms? Are they afraid someone will clean them?
    • If you ate pasta and antipasto, would you still be hungry?
    • Whose cruel idea was it for the word “lisp” to have an “s” in it?
    • If the “Black Box” flight recorder is never damaged in a crash, why isn’t the whole damn airplane made out of that stuff?
