At 7:40 PM in the Georgetown home of Barbara Collazzo-Noonan, in the presence of the three Steve(s) (Boris, Berry and Ross), Dave and Susana Weber, Andy Jenks and Karen Adams as witnessed by Mike Noonan, the December meeting of the Board of Directors of the Northeast Region of Porsche Club of America was called to order. This meeting was notable for true to our New England roots, it demonstrated the great strength of our way of life as the peaceful transference of power was effected from last years office holders to this term’s newly elected servants. I salute my outgoing counterpart and congratulate him on a job well done. As such and in the true democratic tradition, I now take up pen, to relate to you the highlights of this gathering and detail the reports and actions taken by this newly reconstituted governing body on your behalf on this the tenth day of the twelfth month in this, the two thousandth and third year of our Lord. The first speaker, outgoing Vice President of Administration, Steve Boris, reported to the board that arrangements have been made for all of the upcoming year’s member meetings save one. With the rescheduling of the Annual Dinner due to inclement weather, it was reported that attendance was expected to remain level or possibly increase for the rescheduled party on January 17th, as several members had already taken advantage of the new date to sign up. The upcoming visit in January to the Paul Russell workshop has already been filled, while the visit to KTR Motorsports in February is also garnering significant interest. As the May activity has yet to be set, it was suggested, by Mr. Weber that we consider the possibility of a garage tour. After the laughing subsided, Steve explained that we could set up a tour of several significant private collections in the area. It was further suggested that perhaps this could take place in the form of a Rally. The Steves’ will investigate. Following the presentation of the irrepressible Mr. Boris, Steve Berry presented the board with the membership figures for the final month of this year. In brief, December provided the region with 35 new members bringing the total membership to 1474 at years end. Despite the rather poor economic climate there were 286 new initiates to the region this year, over fifty more than last year. Continuing the discussion of the economics, next on station was Andy Jenks, outgoing Treasurer and incoming President. Andy’s report on the fiscal health of the club was surprisingly upbeat with both the Autocross and Driver’s Ed programs finishing in the black for the year. The Nor’easter, as well, is quite sound financially and after a brief discussion related to as yet unreceived advertising payments, the board unanimously approved the report. Subsequently, a rather lengthy discussion was led by the Vice President of Activities, Steve Ross, on the status of this years upcoming driver events. Steve continued to express concern as to the new set of rules imposed on autocross participants in the upcoming year. Steve is continuing to seek clarification on the rules, particularly in the area of the banning of unregistered vehicles. Noise abatement appears to be the primary issue. All Ramble details are set with the exception of securing a starting location. Steve expects this will be resolved shortly. He also reported that there are at least three volunteers helping to coordinate this years rally events. Finally, the track committee has submitted a tentative list of Driver Education dates. There was general agreement that the schedule was both diverse and interesting. It is expected that the track committee will present the full details to the board at the next monthly meeting. Finally, Dave Weber presented the board with the 2004 schedule of deadlines, production and publication for the Nor’Easter. Additional discussion was held around the creation and inclusion of new promotions for the upcoming events. It was at this time that I finally got the courage to speak and requested that Dave supply me with the schedule electronically rather than in writing so that I might not only retain it, but access it from time to time. The meeting adjourned at precisely 9:04:08 PM. The next meeting of the board will be held at the home of Dave and Susana Weber on January the 11th at which time, I, your eyes and ears will once again attempt to overcome my ADD, so that I might convey to you the state of our much beloved organization. Happiest of Holidays; Peace in the New Year. |
