Schillings on the mound tonight for the first time since his storied performances of last season. This is apropos; for tonight is the first time any of us has seen Andy since he went down with back problems at the end of last season. The rest of the team tonight consists of Dave, Susana, Steve Boris, Karen A, Steve Ross & me. To be honest, we’re in that period of time when there really isn’t a heck of a lot new to report, I’ve got that killer cold that’s been going around and I’m a little tapped out in the creativity department. Therefore and without further adieux, I’ll recap the game as briefly as possible. First inning: No one on, nobody out. Steve Ross doubles to left center. He scores as a result of over 70 people attending the new comers meeting. SRO. One has to presume that as I escaped with my life, the mailing was a success. Second inning: Susana pitches Eurostoves as next months member’s meeting venue. Will certainly beat the typical Fenway cuisine and at roughly the cost of a pair of bleacher seats. It would appear a strikeout in June, which will be this year’s meeting-less month. July sees us floating one over a plate of fried clams. Boating on the Essex followed by a repast at Woodmans. Toward the end of the inning things get a little shaky, but she pitches a concours prep or Pinewood Derby construction seminar. I’m working on adapting my new AIM MXL data logger/electronic dash to get it to fit within the rules. (This could be tough. The rules demand entrants weigh in at no more the 5 ounces, might have to go to titanium axles). September finds us smack one into the middle of Porsche fest. If we make the playoffs, we’ll likely be in Buzzards Bay for a brewery tour in October. Third inning: Treasurers report. Three up, three down. Report approved. The streak is alive! Fourth inning: Steve Ross pinch hits for Rick Gilbert. Inskip car show set for June 5th and a southern rally should see that a few of us make it home. Tentatively set for June 26th. The AX committee will be getting together in the next few weeks to test the new timing system software. DE, all systems go. Fifth inning: Manager Dave issue the orders for next months promos and articles for the ballpark program, the Nor’Easter. Sixth inning: RJM enters the game. Hacks a chopper over the third baseman’s head, extra bases. Steals third on a pitch in the dirt. He’s bunted home by Bill Hawe. The Mart is live again. Seventh inning: Big stretch followed by the game being called on account of darkness. Time 9:01 PM. Next game will be held on May 11 at the Gilbert field. |
