Bill
Brinkmann hosted this month's executive board meeting and we were quite
surprised at the quality of the spread considering Tobey was working that
evening. He proved his engineering background by informing us that all
he did was reheat. Those of us in the marketing or advertising fields would
have suggested how hard it was to prepare everything in time.
Our president, Bruce Corwin, called the meeting to order at 8:05pm. Those participating were Bill Brinkmann, Frank Bruns, Bruce Corwin, Bruce Hauben, Greg Hill, Steve Ross, and Dave Weber. Bruce Corwin asked Bill Brinkmann to start off by presenting the treasurer’s report. We're very pleased with the health of this club. As a result of positive growth, the board's goal is to make our events more and more interesting. Next on the agenda was the membership report presented by Bruce Hauben. His report showed that there were more member transfers into our region than those that transferred out. His report also showed continued membership growth. Bruce also discussed obtaining a date for a Spring Brunch Ramble. April 1 was chosen and you should see notices in the Nor'Easter in upcoming issues. Since we were on the topic of scheduling, we had a general discussion about the 2001 schedule. Among the dates discussed were the Autocross series, the Zone 1 Concours, the NER Concours, and etcetera. I had a bit of a scare at this point in the meeting. My laptop with all my notes shut down for some unknown reason. While in the process of rebooting, I noticed a burning smell that increased in intensity to the point where other board members could smell it. I generally get nervous when I have burning objects in mid-torso proximity. After shutting the laptop off the burning smell continued to intensify. Someone suggested that it could be something on the stove and much to everyone's relief it turned out to be a teapot that boiled dry. At that point I asked Bill if he would make me some toast. Frank Bruns reported next. The activities report included discussion of our meeting at the Collings' home in Stow. Club members turned out in droves to see this phenomenal collection of automobiles and airplanes in an estate setting. Our tour guide, Fred Steele, who could be described as nothing other than colorful, augmented the tour of the property. He claims that he doesn't do stand-up comedy but I'm not so sure. He really made the tour a lot of fun. This would be a great site for future events. As part of the tour we conducted a region photo contest. Photos displayed ranged from scenic to funny. Prizes were awarded to winners in several categories. Frank also noted that Annual Dinner registrations are pouring in. Please send your application in early to make sure you get in. I attended the 1999 Annual Dinner and I had such a great time I'm very much looking forward to this December. The board also discussed details pertaining to the Annual Dinner including awards, award recipients and ideas for door prizes. Our January meeting is being held on Saturday the 20th. You'll want to attend this one. John Paterak will be our speaker. If you don't know who John is, look for the write-up in this publication. You'll be amazed by his accomplishments. A dinner or buffet is planned and it will be a great opportunity to socialize with your Porsche friends. Names of future guest speakers were tossed about so keep your eye on the Nor'Easter for details. Karen Adams was not able to attend the meeting. Details came in by email. Autocross dates have set for 2001 so keep checking the www.porschenet.com website or this publication for the upcoming 2001 schedule. The success of the Fall tour was briefly discussed as were equipment needs. The Autocross committee will require a more powerful generator as well as a laptop for the 2001 season. Dave Weber pointed out that the Autocross trailer is due for general service and minor repairs. Next, Dave Weber presented his Nor'Easter report indicating deadlines and content for next month's newsletter. Steve Ross discussed details of the "Street" and "Race" Tech seminars planned for March 2001. Additional tech sessions include a 356 tech in February, a 914 tech with date undetermined, and a 928 tech planned for fall, 2001. Steve also noted that a Site for the clambake for the 2001 Zone 1 Concours has been located. The meeting concluded at: 9:36pm. The next meeting will be held at Kathy and Bruce Corwin's home on Tuesday, December 12, 2000 And don't forget to vote for your next executive board candidates. Hopefully we have made the ballot easy to use so that, unlike our republic, we'll know who our president is within a year of the election. |
