The
December Board meeting began at 7:45 at the home of Andy Jenks. Present
were Dave Weber, Bruce Corwin, Joyce Brinton, Bill Brinkmann, Steve Ross,
Greg Hill, Andy Jenks, Bruce Hauben, Steve Boris and Dennis Cataldo.
Greg Hill presented the Treasurers Report discussion was made about the financial impact of the Mosport Drivers Education event. Autocross figures proved to be an impressive revenue source for the club with the large number of participants this year. As the year comes to a close, the taxes are being prepared for filing. The region continues to be in excellent financial condition. The report was accepted as submitted. Margo Zann, our advertising administrator was present to submit the advertising revenue report to the board. This was a banner year for advertising and based on other regional clubs we continue to be a leader in our advertising program. Compared to other well know non-PCA publications we compare favorably as well. A small increase in rates for the 2002 publication year was approved. Bruce Hauben presented the monthly membership report that continues to reflect a slow decline in membership. The decline appears concurrent with the national reduction in club membership. Our current enrollment stands at 1454 members. Bruce presented some new ideas for club ramble events that may include more overnight locations at "stay-over" distances. The topic of additional rambles was met favorable and discussions were scheduled to resume at the January meeting. The board reviewed the privacy policy that is present on the clubs web site. The board discussed the success of the Annual Dinner. All agreed the site and reduced room size contributed to the evening's success. The February meeting at Paul Russell was discussed and plans are moving along well with a large number expected to attend. Listen up, because that's what we'll be doing at the February meeting at the BOSE factory. Again, plans were discussed and excitement is building for the tour of this unique and world-renowned development facility. The plans for Nik and the Nice Guys event continue to develop with strong interest being expressed. The fee for admission will now include beer and wine. Plans for decorating is coming along and Dave reminded everyone that admission will be limited to 300 participants. A sell out is expected. Discussion about additional speakers and meeting topics ensued with significant feedback from the board about ideas and locations. The club is still actively seeking both an autocross and concours chair people with discussion about redundancy for these positions with the large number of events and logistical demand. Steve Ross agreed to act as the interim autocross chair until a permanent one is appointed. The concours position has some prospects but any interested parties should contact Andy Jenks until one is officially named. Arnie Zann was present to give report on the development of the drivers education program and the national influences he is receiving for standardization of on track communicators for regional instructors. The possibility of "set" DE dates at NHIS and other nearby tracks is a priority for the committee and having a more predictable schedule is a must. Additionally, the committee is seeking to expand our track offerings to include many more tracks within reasonable driving distance. Arnie stated a major goal in the upcoming year would be to enhance our instructor development program and increase the recruitment of new instructors. The committee has appointed John Kisties to a new position as chairperson for the novice drivers and their development. We are actively working to bring on-line registration to the participants of drivers' education and Arnie is confident this change will have a positive impact on ease and efficiency for everyone involved. Margo will be the key person on the committee to publicize our drivers' education events. Her task will be to coordinate our events with neighboring regions in both written and web media formats. A point of major interest to DE participants was the proposed "Pro Driver Program". Arnie explained the major draw of this program would be the attendance of high profile professional race drivers such as Rick Bye, Vic Elford and David Murry. These professional drivers would also be available to the region members as "paid instructors" for a nominal fee at every driver's education event. Additionally, gifts and incentives were discussed for participating instructors. Dave reviewed the writing format requirements for the NOR’EASTER articles with the new board members and reviewed the deadlines for the January NOR’EASTER with everyone. Steve gave report on the upcoming tech sessions and the proposed dates. Bruce Corwin thanked the departing board members for their outstanding contributions to the club this past year. The next meeting will be held on January 13th at the home of Dave and Susana Weber. The meeting adjourned at 10:16 PM. |
