In a way it is good that we start off the year at a slower pace than the rest of the year, the miserable weather can get behind us and we appreciate spring much more. So with that in mind NER/PCA has a bang up April to start you up with an advanced track instructors school on the 13th, a Race Tech at EPE on the 19th and of course the annual NER Ramble, this year returning to the Woodstock Inn, but we are sold out already so plan further ahead next year if you don't want to miss the fun. May brings the first ever golf tournament and our final tech of the spring on the 4th, a concours/cleaning tech just what we all need for all the cars not just the Porsches. The board and track committee are working to bring on-line the registration process so that it will be a seamless exercise that you can accomplish at home with a PC and a credit card, recent developments point to good progress in accomplishing this goal in the near future, stay tuned. Speaking of the track, remember we have scheduled the greatest number and diversity of track events in the illustrious history of Northeast Region with sites throughout the Northeast US and Canada, try to attend some of them you will not be disappointed. Also in the driving venue, the 2003 autocross season promises some great new courses as the Devens people have opened up more real estate for us to use, even making possible a road course layout if we desire. The ever-popular autocross school is quickly filling up for the 18th of May; it should be a must for all novice track people and any novice or near-novice autocrossers. The first competitive NER event is June 1st but NCR (our friends in NH) holds a similar event the day before also at Devens, try them both. It has been said that PCA is about the people and the cars, here are some people examples that I have seen and experienced in my 23 years in PCA. An amazing array of folks has made some serious friends through the camaraderie of this Porsche club region. Some examples; Russ Merriam, our former president and Ramble master for the first 11 years of the event not only found a job with one of our members' company but found his wife via a fellow member. Cindy Markley has probably cleaned a large portion of the clubs cars thru her detailing business, and has pictures and stories about every one of them. Peter Duffy has grown his remodeling business thru numerous contacts in the club; Mike Noonan of Mike's Auto Body has probably repaired or repainted over 150 Porsches of club members who trust his workmanship. Our members who own shops and advertise in this publication have a huge following at their establishments. In addition there have been probably untold numbers of new friendships and business dealings solely through the common interest in the Porsche automobile and it's attraction to our membership. In my case I have been reacquainted with a high school classmate after a 15 year hiatus and become close friends; found a long lost co-worker from my college days, and met Linda, my girlfriend for the last 7 years at a newcomers meeting, and even though we have now parted ways, we will both be participating at selected club events. So as you can see, there are more than
cars to this club, it's the people that make up our over 1600 strong organization.
