Now that Spring has finally arrived (although could not tell it from the temps and water falling from the sky) the Northeast Region is in full swing. It has been nice seeing all the new and recently active members at various club events. This year’s annual Ramble was one event where I found I knew a smaller percentage of members than any other gathering. I enjoyed meeting many of you whom I only knew by name previously. Thank you all who have updated your addresses both USPS and email types over the last few months. Now if we can just get some more NOR’EASTER subscriptions in, then everyone can enjoy that award winning publication every month. Finally if anyone would like some spare copies of the newsletter for promotion or any other purposes, let me know, I have a good supply of the last 5 months worth. This month’s spotlighted member shows up close and personal how contacts thru PCA can have a lasting impression. Linda Wright Bowyer joined our group in June of 1995 after acquiring her first Porsche, an ‘89 944 Turbo S. She then came to her first meeting, the annual Newcomers Meeting, in February of the following year to “learn how to drive on a racetrack”. Yours truly and Linda struck a conversation, which we continued at lunch with some other members that led to a 7 year odyssey of Porsche club and other adventures for both of us. Needless to say she was impressed with the friendliness of members and thru the years met a raft of new and interesting people, many of whom have become good friends. In addition she ran into a number of former coworkers from her Digital Equipment days, including our webmaster Bill Hawe, whom she had hired when he graduated from college. It’s a small world. Through the years she participated in the Mt. Tremblant and Steamboat Springs Parades, a number of Zone events, including autocrosses and the Newport Concours, local autocrosses, all but one of the Rambles since joining, NER Concours plus the Annual Dinners, including the infamous ‘96 event at the Country Club in Brookline, when a blizzard prevented her from getting home that night. Linda now owns a ‘95 993 coupe, which she purchased from an NCR member years ago and a recently acquired special ordered 2004 C4S Cabriolet. Formerly her sports car ownerships were a Datsun 280ZX and a Triumph TR6 (one of the first in the country), and of course numerous winter vehicles have been owned including a group of all wheel drive BMWs. Currently Linda resides in the Baltimore area (and is still an NER member) with her husband Charlie whom she occasionally drags away from the golf course to participate in the Chesapeake region events. Also her younger son, Sean, has participated in a number of DE’s over the years. As has been mentioned throughout these series of profiles, the people are what entice the members to stay involved, the friendships and contacts make it even better still. |
