As president of the region I get some interesting calls from all over the
place, and for some pretty bizarre reasons. One from a woman, who was trying
to track down a Porsche her soon to be ex-husband, was hiding from her.
I never did hear the end of that story. Recently a personal banker
was helping a client, who was relocating to the Boston area, by providing
him with contacts in the Porsche club. I subsequently learned that he was
an avid enthusiast, but unfortunately for us he will be a North Country
member. Another individual was in the process of suing a repair shop out
of state and wanted not only the club but National to intervene, since
it involved someone known to the membership. Of course the coupon deal,
which recently ended, elicited numerous inquiries on where the coupons
were. Then I received more calls form another group of members, who were
sadly disappointed in the discount nature of the coupons. Then finally
still another group of calls from members requesting me to find a way to
cash in the coupons after the expiration date.
June is probably the region's slowest month as far as activities go.
But don't worry we have only left one weekend devoid of Porsche activity
the rest of the summer. Our first ever visit to a foreign track (Mt. Tremblant
in Quebec) is quickly filling up and should be great fun for all that register.
They'll drive on a great track, plus get a preview of the gorgeous countryside
and quaint village at the base of the mountain where the Parade will be
held in August.
Our second autocross will be also held in June. I don't know how we
can top the 94 entrants at the first one. Maybe the absence of the Metro
NY contingent (especially our class 5 nemesis Henry Hoeh) could free
up some space. Despite the record entrée, we still managed 6 runs
by 5 pm with a good 45 minutes used on reruns, which should not happen
again. As a preview to our own concours in September, the Museum of Transportation
in Brookline is again holding German Car Day on the 27th. Plan to attend
that event, we had over 40 Porsches last year (by far the largest contingent).
Judging is very laid back as the event spectators do it, so massive cleaning
is not critical. Just bring a few chairs and enjoy the sites.
Believe it or not we have set up a nominating committee for next year,
and I will be chairing it (since I will automatically become past president
an unelected position). If you have any interest in serving the club on
the board of directors, or even want to just help out in general, please
let me know.
