As you read this column a goodly number of you will be starting preparations
for the first local Parade, since the Zone 1 Parade of 1994. This year's
event will be held in neighboring Mt. Tremblant, Quebec, Canada. For those
of you who have never participated in a Parade, it is a first rate event
where you will meet many interesting Porsche enthusiasts from all over
the country, and probably make some friendships, which could last for years.
The primary events are a Concours, Rally, Autocross and Tech Quiz. There
are however, many other opportunities to enjoy your self during parade
week. The art show displays some truly talented artists' works. A number
of athletic endeavors are organized such as a 5K runs, and tennis and golf
tournaments. A memorabilia show with old Porsche related items is held
one evening. And in addition there are many planned tours to go along with
the local opportunities for mountain biking, and water sports to name a
few. So bring the whole family and enjoy as many different activities as
you like, and remember the American dollar goes a long way in Canada with
the very favorable exchange rate, plus you are entitled to a tax rebate
as an American citizen after your visit.
As mentioned last month we are looking for a few good people to serve
on the NER board of directors, anyone having an interest, please contact
Susana Weber or myself for more information.
After a short lull in activities during May and early June, we really
get down to business with a myriad of events to be run throughout the summer
and into the usually crowded fall. This year is our 40th anniversary so
we will be holding a combination Concours, Rally and Anniversary
dinner on September 18 and 19 on the North Shore. We are currently
looking for any information on previous Presidents of the region
and/or some of the founders of NER back in 1959. Any information can be
forwarded to any board member, Charlie Dow, the 40th anniversary chairman,
or myself.
Recently Judy Hendrickson, the national Membership Chair, has been
working on a special project for National to redefine membership boundaries
for the various regions throughout the country. Over the years many things
have changed and the original boundaries have either become obsolete or
were poorly designated in the first place, or could be better served by
another region. The results of this project have given NER a proposed annexation
of 2 counties in central Massachusetts. (For your information NER only
encompasses Eastern Massachusetts to the Worcester area and Rhode Island,
not the whole state as many assume). Pending National board approval one
or both counties will become ours after the Parade National board meeting.
Hope to see many of your at one of our summer events.
