Porsche fever is really getting to me now, the 24 hours of Daytona just concluded, the Daytona 500 will be the day of our next board meeting. Both true signs that spring is just around the corner, in spite of what the furry creature in Pennyslavania says. As mentioned in last month's column, our online Mart has been a treasure trove of opportunity. Recently not only have I successfully sold my 944 S2 through it, but Linda has located and purchased a 911 via the same means. Now I have intensified my search for a replacement 968 (see this month's classified) before the first autocross in May. Some notes on upcoming events, which many of you should think of attending. Our annual new comers meeting on the 29th of March, this year at the new IRA Porsche in Danvers, is always a great way for new members (those who joined in the last year or two), or even some of you who have been members for many years but never came to any event, to see what the club is about. Bruce Corwin has collected representatives from all the activity areas; Track, autocross, tour, concours, and techs and they will each give a short speech plus exciting videos of their particular specialty. So register for this fun afternoon in Danvers so that you will have first hand information on how to plan your driving season this year. Another interesting event is the annual German Car Day at the Museum of Transportation to be held this year on June 29th. The museum is located in Brookline. In addition to being a great opportunity to show your Porsche (if you want to), the viewing of other Porsches plus some very well restored BMWs and Mercedes make it a great time for the whole family. Again see upcoming issues of the Noreaster for more information. Finally the long anticipated 996 (the new 911) will be shown at our May meeting to be held the 30th, at Clair Porsche on the West Roxbury/ Dedham line on Rte 1 south. See the promos in the Noreaster, I think everyone will have an opinion on the looks of the car. As I write this column in early February, the tech season is yet to begin, March 1st will be the kickoff at Foreign Intrigue in Berwick Maine hosted by Mike Grishman. Entrys are trickling in from 356 enthusiasts and owners many of whom have never been to a club event of any kind. Past techs have uncovered 10 year members doing their first club activity, I wonder why it takes so long for people to decide to take advantage of the 40 plus activities we offer each year. If you are or were amongst this silent majority why not drop me, or any other board member, a line and tell us your feelings on finally participating in our regions' activities. Speaking of communications, what has happened to the letters to the editor, I'm sure someone amongst our 1100 plus members has a comment to make, a request, funny adventure or even a compliment they would like to share with the rest of us. After reading through Doug Adams massive schedule of the Northeast US track events, he reminded me that PCA is truly a national organization, which each and every one of us can benefit from throughout the country and even overseas. For example, say you were on a business trip to some city in the US, which you have never been to, and you would like some first hand info on hotels to stay in or restaurants to eat in. Simple, just check the March issue of Panorama, where an insert lists all the officers of the 130 plus regions of the club, a call to one of these folks will probably get you that info, or the name of someone in the area who would know the answers. Similarly, we are all welcome to participate in most out of region events, with the usual preregistration waiting period, anywhere in PCA. So remember this the next time your traveling. Speaking of out of region events, our friends in North Country (New Hampshire) Region have scheduled two autocrosses on weekends we have events at the Devens site (May 16 and August 1). In addition they are using NHIS on Monday, Tuesday May 18,19, why not join them and show your support for other regions. Finally some twists in this years' autocross series which should make the competition even more interesting. As mentioned earlier my car has been sold to another PCA member, Jay Erickson, who plans to autocross it as much as possible this year. That should make for some tight competition in my old class. Secondly, the Class 8 terror of a few years ago, Mark Forrester, has moved close to the Devens area, and found that our autocross schedule does not conflict with his PCA racing schedule, so it looks like he will be returning to defend his title of '96, look for my complete picks to click in next month's issue of the Noreaster, plus word as to whether we will be hosting the annual Zone 1 autocross.
