Well it must now be spring, because I have just returned from Tech Tactics in Springfield Mass where everyone in attendance was talking Porsche events, whether they be tracks, autocross, or concours or the Parade. In fact, of the 140 registrants there, a goodly number of them were NER members and a disproportionate number of them won door prizes - some 2 each (none for me this time though). For me,  the highlight of the weekend was Mike Joy from CBS Sports. A last minute fill in for Price Cobb, who canceled less than a week before the event, Mike gave a great impromptu talk about TV and Motorsports. He provided some rational for his and our obsession with cars for the benefit of his new wife. (a non-car person I would say). As usual the vendors were out in force, models and artwork seem to growing in presence, but a video driving game seemed to be the most popular exhibit of the day on Saturday.

While smoozing with other region people, I learned that CVR and Metro NY have finally got on line with their own web pages. Also Bridgehampton may still be alive. Seems the townspeople dislike the idea of a golf course even more than a racetrack. The only problem now is to convince the owner to like a racetrack.

Finally sold the S2 today, it took the last journey after almost 5 years and 50K fun miles. It has found a good home with a current PCA member. Word has spread quickly amongst my former competitors in Class 4 and it seems a resurgence of interest in autocrossing in that class will be seen this year. My 968 should be ready to go by the autocross school in April, as the vendors at Tech Tactics were a great help in planning my performance upgrades for the coming year. One interesting fact for you BFG tire users, apparently production problems have pushed back the introduction of the new G-Force replacement tire to this fall, but the good news is there are plenty of the current R1s available.

As you read this the, the Spring President's meeting will be history and we will know whether we, Rennsport or NNJR will host this year's Zone 1 autocross. The latter seems to have the inside line at this point (1 week before the meeting as this is being written) with a venue of Saturday at the Meadowlands ( a monstrous hunk of asphalt at which I participated last year), then Sunday at FDU about 5 miles away. Seems some guys with a strange shaped leather ball use the site on Sunday.  The other issue is whether the new Glen Region will host the '99 Zone 1 Concours, we have tossed our hat in as a backup if they decline. If we do not get picked then we will host the 2002 event in Newport, Rhode Island.

For those of you who delayed entering the Parade this year, you missed out, it's full and the waiting list is growing. Remember next year the parade will be held at Mt. Tremblant, Quebec, a mere 1 1/2 hours north of Montreal. We should have a massive presence, and believe me it will be worth the trip.

We kicked off our '98 Tech series recently with a great showing at the 356 event in Berwick Maine. Mike Grishman and Brian Doherty held the many interested participants spell bound for over 5 hours.  The 911  (the largest of the year) and the 944 sessions will also be history by the time you read this.

See you all at the Ramble, this year to be the largest ever ending at beautiful Lake George New York.
