First off, as of the latest figures available through April 30th, we are now solidly in first place in the annual PCA Region membership growth contest. By mid June, we should have the final numbers and hopefully we will be winning this great award. Speaking for the Board of Directors, I would like to thank all of you who "did what it took" to enlist all the new members we have had join the region throughout the previous year, and especially our current and past membership people Paul Dudley and Karen Adams respectively. We are really in the thick of activities now. I write this in mid-May in the middle of a two autocross and one track weekend. Those events follow the largest event the region has put on since the '91 Parade, the '98 Ramble to Lake George in scenic upstate New York. Over 100 cars (that's close to 200 people) happily drove through a soaking Saturday, to be rewarded with a slightly better ride back on Sunday. Many thanks to our illustrious tour guide for the last 10 years, Russ Merriam, and his happy group of workers who make this happen every spring. As previously mentioned I write this in the midst of a dual autocross weekend, North Country held their first event at Devens on Saturday, while we held the largest ever non-parade event, 80 entrants, on Sunday. It was great seeing so many new faces and even more remarkable, many new cars or at least new cars to old members, myself included. It is interesting how Porsches seem to find new homes within the club family, witness my last 3 cars all being actively campaigned in various forms of motorsports. Our new Concours chairman Eric Kessel is hard at work locating another glorious site for this years’ August car show. Check the listings in the next few Nor’easters for details. Even though we rarely attract many serious “trailer queens” at our events, there are a great number of exceptionaly well maintained Porsches in the region. Some of which are in much better shape than the owners realize, so plan to attend this August event whether you plan to enter or not, you will not regret it. Finally a hardy group of PCAers defied the weather forecasters and spent another weekend day in the rain, with a few breaks at the annual PCA Races at Lime Rock Park. Great time anyway, our local gang did great wins by Ron (yawn), Cal Calamari, Jim Lewis, Sam Low, unfortunately Mark Forrester slipped on the wet stuff on Thursday so he was a DNS. After trying to watch from the hill, the wind driven drizzle drove us to the comfort of the car right against the fence near the esses, great seats. Anyone who has never witnessed one of these events should take one in, they are great entertainment, all Porsches and the price is fantastic (free). PS: we had our first autocross of the year and it looks like there has been a wholesale change of cars (check out the story in this issue). But my big news is the thumping I got from Bruce Corwin, just wait till I get those high performance valve stem caps and frisbee headlight covers, he’ll see my car’s tail then.
