Just when we thought the wettest spring in history was over, what comes
along but the worst June in history. We had to reluctantly cancel our second
autocross of the year, after a forecast of more torrential downpours. The
forecast did not sound in the least bit appealing to our event organizers,
who had endured a moderately wet first event. Interestingly enough when
I went to the site to notify the guard service that we had cancelled, two
Porsche owners were waiting for registration to open, one of whom was very
disappointed that we cancelled. In the future we are asking anyone unsure
of whether an event is canceled to call the event chair. That individual
will leave a recorded message on their answering machine.
Due to the Parade July will be a relatively quiet month but August
and September will see no less than 4 autocroses, 2 NHIS track days plus
our annual concours and the new Cruise Nite on the 22nd of August.
Believe it or not it's nomination time for the board of directors and
our
Chairperson, Karen Adams is busily gathering prospects for the open
positions.
If you have any interest in helping to run the region please contact
Karen and let her know.
Unfortunately at the early press time for this issue I have no word
on the membership contest, but of course that will be determined in the
next week or so since the award is presented at the parade. Due to an unprecedented
effort on the part of the region’s members, we racked up a very impressive
growth rate. Our results were terrific, especially for a large region (in
the top ten nationally of 140 regions. The overall results are being scrutinized,
due to an amazing growth rate recorded in the last month by a tiny region
that, if they are verified, could knock us out of the winner’s circle.
On a recent Sunday drive (to a non-automotive site) I came across a
very entertaining form of advertising similar to some of the crazy
signs you see in Car & Driver. I viewed the following in Rockport,
advertising some artwork. Attached to the piece of art was a very nicely
written price tag "was $190 now $350".
Finally, I want to thank all those members who took the time to come
out and support the Museum of Transportation's annual German Car day. Almost
50 Porsches were there, easily outnumbering the other marques, and most
of them were NER club members. It was a very relaxing social day with no
pressures to super clean the cars, as the only judging was by People's
Choice. One of our members, Earling Falke, won with his gorgeous '57 356
Sunroof Coupe with fitted luggage and all.
